Engineering
My decision to maintain a consulting firm in addition to my academic career is an intentional effort to keep one foot in the "real" engineering world for two reasons: I find the work interesting and I want to be a better engineering professor. Too often I have witnessed career academics teach engineering without having ever engineered, or spend a post-industry academic career talking about experiences with engineering that occurred decades prior. My hope is that my work with MSB Consulting will serve my academic career by acting as a constant reminder of what it means to engineer, while also offering opportunities to discuss recent, relevant projects in my classes. Additionally, I believe that my background in experimental research and scientific analysis allows me to approach my consulting work from a more precise perspective rather than a simple 'this is how we have always done it' viewpoint.
I would love to hear from anyone who is in need of geotechnical design in Denver, CO or geotechnical consulting anywhere in the world.
Design
I am a licensed professional engineer in Colorado and have prior experience with engineering design and forensics in Rocky Mountain Front Range soils. Specific design experience includes: reinforced soil walls, cutoff trenches, dry wells, shallow foundations, deep foundations (drilled shaft) as well as general analysis required to complete geotechnical reports and site investigations.
Consulting
My experience in geotechnical forensics includes projects related specifically to: reinforced soils walls, moisture sensitive soils, construction quality and control issues, and foundation design.
I am interested in working on local, domestic, and/or international projects and I am happy to provide additional information upon request.
